On this page we will give an overview of what we do here at Florida Draft Horse Rescue. We try to provide each horse with the best possible care. We design a feeding and training program that will help the horse gain weight, and a training program that will help the horse gain self confidence and knowledge to perform a job well done.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Story Of “Paris”
“Paris” is a 28 year old retired racing thoroughbred mare. “Paris came to us from a family who could no longer keep her. She was extremely thin and in poor condition. The family had been paying board for her that included grain and hay, as well as paying extra to have larger portions of hay and senior feed fed to her. Obviously “Paris” was not receiving the care the family was paying for.  Unfortunately this situation is not an uncommon one, very often owners find themselves in situations beyond their control and are not sure what to do. After a few weeks of care and good feed, “Paris” starts to show signs of building muscle and replenishing some of the her body fat. Care must be taken for her well being and health to not allow her to gain too much weight to quickly as that can be fatal. However she is well on her way to gaining her weight and coming back to the beautiful mare she truly is.

This is Alice, she was a retired PMU mare, she came to us very underweight as you can see and in bad need of a worming. After a vet check, worming and all her vaccines after just 3 months she is well on her way to her full weight.
